What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that takes the place of a missing tooth root. It's placed in your jawbone, where it integrates with the bone over a few months. Once it's solid, we attach a custom-made crown on top that looks and feels just like a natural tooth.

Implants are the closest thing we have to a real tooth. They don't slip, they don't decay, they don't need to be removed at night, and with good care they can last a lifetime.

What to expect

  1. Consultation and 3D imaging. We map your bone, your bite, and your existing teeth. You'll know up front whether implants are right for you and how long the whole process will take.
  2. Plan and quote. We give you a clear, complete price before anything starts. No surprises.
  3. Implant placement. One of our dentists trained in implant placement places the implant, with local numbing. Most patients are surprised at how quick and comfortable it is.
  4. Healing. The implant bonds with your jawbone over the next 3 to 6 months. You'll wear a temporary tooth in the meantime so your smile stays full.
  5. Crown placement. Once the implant is fully integrated, we attach the custom crown. You leave with a tooth that looks and works like your natural teeth.
  6. Care and check-ins. You brush and floss your implant just like a real tooth. We see you for normal cleanings and keep an eye on everything.

The placement itself is done with local numbing, and most patients are surprised at how comfortable it is. You may feel some soreness for a couple of days after, similar to a tooth extraction. Over-the-counter pain relievers usually handle it.

From start to finish, plan on 4 to 8 months. Most of that is healing time, when your implant bonds with the bone. The actual appointments are usually short.

With good care (brushing, flossing, regular checkups) implants can last a lifetime. The crown on top may eventually need replacement after many years, but the implant post itself is built to stay.

Yes. The crown is custom-made to match the shape and color of your surrounding teeth. Most people can't tell the difference.

There's no upper age limit. What matters is your overall health, the health of your gums, and whether you have enough jawbone to support the implant. We see implant patients in their 70s and 80s.
