What we treat

Common reasons patients come in for oral surgery:

  • Wisdom teeth: Removal of impacted or problematic wisdom teeth, including those that haven't broken through the gum.
  • Surgical extractions: Removal of teeth that are too damaged, broken, or rooted in too deep for a regular extraction.
  • Implant placement: Surgical placement of dental implants, the first step in restoring missing teeth.
  • Bone rebuilding: Adding bone to your jaw when there isn't enough to support an implant. Often done before implant placement.
  • Exposing stuck teeth: Helping a tooth that's stuck under the gum come into place, often as part of orthodontic treatment.
  • Other surgical care: Cyst removal, biopsy of unusual mouth tissue, and treatment of jaw infections. If you're not sure, call us.

Do you need oral surgery?

You may need oral surgery if you have:

  • Wisdom teeth that are coming in sideways, crowding, or hurting
  • A tooth that's too damaged or broken to be saved
  • Missing teeth and want a long-term replacement with implants
  • Been told you need a bone graft before getting an implant
  • A persistent jaw infection or facial swelling
  • An unusual lump, sore, or growth in your mouth that hasn't healed

What to expect

  1. Consultation. Our oral surgeon examines the area, reviews X-rays, and explains exactly what needs to be done and why.
  2. Treatment plan. You'll get a clear, written plan with the procedure, recovery time, and total cost. No surprises.
  3. Numbing. We use thorough local numbing so the area being worked on is fully numb before we begin. You'll be awake but won't feel pain during the procedure.
  4. The procedure. Done right here in our office on the day of your appointment.
  5. Recovery and follow-up. You'll go home with detailed care instructions. We'll see you for a follow-up visit to make sure healing is on track.

Oral surgery costs vary widely depending on the procedure. We'll always give you a clear price up front so you know exactly what to expect.

  • Many oral surgery procedures are covered, at least in part, by dental or medical insurance. We'll help you check.

You shouldn't feel pain during the procedure. We use thorough local numbing for every surgery so the area is fully numb before we begin. After surgery, you'll have some soreness for a few days, and we'll give you a clear plan to manage it.

We hear you. Most patients are nervous about oral surgery, and we don't rush. We'll explain everything before we start, check in with you during the procedure, and take pauses if you need them. Many patients tell us afterward that it was easier than they expected.

It depends on the procedure. A simple wisdom tooth extraction may have you back to normal in a few days. A larger surgery like a bone graft can take a couple of weeks of careful eating. We'll give you a realistic timeline.

Not always. If your wisdom teeth are coming in straight, have room, and aren't causing problems, sometimes they can stay. We'll be honest with you about whether removal is actually needed.

Yes. Because we use local numbing only, you'll be alert and safe to drive home after the procedure. Your mouth will be numb for a few hours, so plan to wait before eating.

Yes. Having a dedicated oral surgeon on staff means we handle most cases in-house that other general dental offices have to refer out. If your case requires a hospital setting for any reason, we'll let you know.
