Two ways to whiten

We offer professional whitening that's much stronger and more effective than anything you can buy at the store. You can do it at the office in one visit, or at home with custom trays. Both work great. The right one depends on your schedule and preference.

In-office whitening

You sit in the chair for about an hour. We apply a professional-strength whitening gel and let it do the work. You leave that same day with a noticeably brighter smile.

Best for: A wedding next weekend, a special event, anyone who'd rather have it done in one shot.

Take-home whitening

We take a quick impression of your teeth and make custom trays that fit your mouth perfectly. You wear them at home with professional whitening gel for a stretch each day, usually a couple of weeks. You can do it on your own schedule.

Best for: People who want flexibility, or who'd like to keep the trays for touch-ups later.

Both methods use higher-strength whitening than anything available over the counter. That's why they work so much better than drugstore strips and gels.

Is whitening right for me?

Whitening works best on healthy teeth with surface stains from things like:

  • Coffee, tea, red wine, soda, or dark soups
  • Years of normal wear that's dulled the color
  • Tobacco staining

Whitening doesn't change the color of existing crowns, veneers, or fillings. If you have any of those in your front teeth, we'll talk through what to expect so the result blends well.

Some types of staining (medication staining from childhood, for example) don't respond well to whitening. We'll look at your teeth honestly and tell you if whitening will give you the result you're after, or if veneers or bonding would be a better fit.

What to expect

  1. Checkup first. We want healthy teeth and gums before whitening. If you have a cavity or need a cleaning, we handle that first.
  2. Pick your method. In-office for one-and-done, or take-home for flexibility.
  3. Whitening session. About an hour in the chair, or a couple of weeks at home with custom trays.
  4. Touch ups as needed. Whitening fades over time. Most people touch up every 6 to 12 months. With take-home trays you have everything you need to do it yourself.

Cost and financing

Whitening is a cosmetic treatment, so dental insurance generally does not cover it. The good news: whitening is one of the more affordable cosmetic upgrades, and we have payment options.

  • Whitening is a flat, upfront price. We'll tell you the total before you book.
  • Third-party financing through CareCredit, Alphaeon, and Cherry.
  • HSA and FSA are not typically eligible for whitening (it's cosmetic), but check with your plan.
  • We'll give you a clear total before you book.

Whitening FAQs

Will it damage my teeth?

No. Professional whitening is safe when done properly. We check your teeth and gums first to make sure they're healthy, and the gels we use are designed to be gentle on enamel.

Will it make my teeth sensitive?

Some people get short-lived sensitivity to cold during or right after whitening. It usually fades within a day or two. We can adjust the strength or pace of treatment if you're prone to sensitivity.

How long does the result last?

Most people stay brighter for 6 to 12 months. Things that stain your teeth (coffee, tea, wine, dark sauces) will fade the result faster. Take-home trays make touch-ups easy.

How many shades brighter will I get?

Most patients see several shades of improvement. The exact result depends on what your teeth look like now and the type of staining. We'll set realistic expectations before we start.

Why not just use strips from the drugstore?

You can. They'll work a little. The difference is strength: our professional gels are several times more potent, and the custom trays apply the gel evenly across your teeth. Result: dramatically better whitening in a fraction of the time.

Can I whiten if I'm pregnant?

We typically wait. Whitening hasn't been shown to be harmful, but as a precaution we usually recommend holding off until after pregnancy and nursing.
