Crowns & Bridges in Waipahu

Restore the tooth. Keep the smile.

Crowns rebuild a tooth that's broken or worn down. Bridges fill the space where a tooth is missing. Both look natural, feel natural, and last for years.

Smiles worth showing off

We rebuild teeth so they look and feel like your own. Most people will never know which one we fixed.

Built to match your smile

Every crown and bridge is custom made for your mouth. Color, shape, and size all designed to fit in with the teeth around it. No one should be able to tell it's there.

What is a crown?

A crown (sometimes called a cap) is a custom-made cover that goes over a tooth. It restores the size, shape, and strength of a tooth that's been damaged or worn down.

When you might need one:

  • A tooth has a large cavity that's too big for a filling.
  • A tooth has cracked, chipped, or broken.
  • You've had a root canal and the tooth needs protection.
  • A tooth is worn down from grinding.
  • You want to change the shape or color of a tooth for cosmetic reasons.
  • You have an implant and need a crown on top of it.

How long it lasts:

A well-made crown typically lasts 10 to 20 years or longer with good care. Brushing, flossing, and regular checkups make a big difference.

What is a bridge?

A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth. It uses the teeth on either side of the gap as anchors and "bridges" the space with a replacement tooth that matches the rest of your smile.

When a bridge makes sense:

  • You're missing one or more teeth in a row.
  • The teeth on either side of the gap are healthy and strong enough to support the bridge.
  • You want a fixed solution (not removable).
  • An implant isn't the right fit for your situation.

Bridge or implant? Both are great options. Implants tend to last longer and don't involve the teeth next to the gap. Bridges are usually faster and less expensive up front. We'll walk you through which one fits you best. More on implants here.

What to expect

Crowns and bridges typically take two visits, a couple of weeks apart.

  1. Exam and X-ray. We confirm a crown or bridge is the right fit.
  2. Preparation visit. The tooth (or teeth, for a bridge) is shaped and an impression is taken. We use the impression to create a crown or bridge that fits your mouth exactly.
  3. Temporary in place. You leave with a temporary crown or bridge while the permanent one is made.
  4. Fit and place. A couple of weeks later, you come back. We check the fit, color, and bite, then permanently bond the crown or bridge in place.
  5. Follow up. We check it at your next routine visit to make sure everything is sitting well.

Cost and insurance

Crowns and bridges are usually covered by most dental insurance plans, often at 50%. Coverage varies, so we'll check ahead of your visit and tell you the out-of-pocket cost up front.

  • Most dental insurance plans cover crowns and bridges (often around 50%).
  • Smile Plan members save on crown and bridge work.
  • Third-party financing through CareCredit, Alphaeon, and Cherry spreads the cost into monthly payments.
  • HSA and FSA accepted.

Crowns and bridges FAQs

Will the crown match my other teeth?

Yes. We match the color, shape, and size to the teeth around it. Done well, no one can tell which tooth is the crown.

How long does the procedure take?

The preparation visit takes about 60 to 90 minutes. The fit-and-place visit a couple of weeks later is shorter, usually 30 to 45 minutes.

Will it hurt?

No. We numb the area completely before any work is done. Most patients are surprised how easy the visit is.

Can I eat normally with a crown or bridge?

Yes, once it's permanently in place. You can chew, bite, and eat the things you love. With a bridge, we may suggest going easy on very hard or sticky foods.

How do I take care of it?

Brush and floss like normal. For a bridge, we'll show you a special technique or tool to clean underneath the replacement tooth. That's the one extra step.

Crown or implant for a missing tooth?

A crown alone doesn't replace a missing tooth, but an implant with a crown on top does. For one missing tooth, we'll talk through the options: bridge, implant, or no treatment at all. Each has trade-offs and we'll lay them out honestly.
