Aloha, and welcome to something new.
We spend our days helping people smile. But the longer we do this, the more we have come to believe a smile is not really about teeth at all. It is about the whole person behind it. How they feel. What they love. How their day is going when no one is watching. So we are starting a little series called What Makes a Smile, and it is not really about us. It is about that bigger idea: a smile comes from the inside out, and we are here to help you find yours.
Why we are doing this
A healthy smile matters, and we will always take good care of yours. But we have never thought a smile starts in the dental chair. It starts with how someone feels about their life. Confidence. Feeling cared for. A good morning. People who know your name.
And if your smile is something you have struggled with, or felt shy about, you are exactly who we hope feels welcome here. We care about the person first.
At Smile Dental, we care about the whole person, not just your teeth. We want to help you smile inside and out. That has always been the heart of what we do, and this series is our way of showing it.
That is the part you cannot fit on a services page. So instead of telling you we see the whole person, we want to show you. Real faces. Real stories. The people behind the smiles, our own included.
First up: Jem
We could not think of a better person to start with than Jem.
Jem is Dr. Viernes’ daughter. She grew up around this practice, she straightened her own smile with us using Invisalign, and she is now studying to become a dentist herself. Smiles really do run in this family.
Her first episode is simple on purpose. A slow morning, avocado toast at the counter, nothing fancy. Just Jem at the start of her day, being herself. Because a real smile starts with how you feel, not just how your teeth look. The person comes first.
What is coming
Over time, this series will grow, and so will the stories. More of our team, more everyday moments, more of the things that make people light up. Because the more smiles you see, the clearer the idea becomes: a smile is never just about teeth. And if you are a patient who wants to share what makes you smile, we would love to feature you too, only ever with your okay.
No scripts. No pressure. Just real people, and a reminder that a good smile starts from the inside out.
Frequently asked questions
What is the “What Makes a Smile” series? It is a short video series on our Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok about a simple idea: a smile is about more than teeth. Through real people and everyday moments, it is our way of showing that we care about the whole person, and that we are here to help you smile from the inside out.
Who is in it? We are starting with our own ohana, like Jem. Over time we will feature more team members, and patients who would like to share their story.
Can I be featured? We would love that. We only ever feature patients with a signed okay, and we never share any health details. If you are interested, send us a message and we will tell you more.
Are you taking new patients? Yes. We care for families across Waipahu and West Oahu, from kids’ first checkups to Invisalign, implants, and dentures. If you have been meaning to find a dentist, request an appointment and we will make it easy.
